In 1818 Timothy Street, a resident of Niagara Township was given the task of surveying the last remaining tract of land along the banks of the Credit River that was ceded to the British government. In return, Street was granted 1,000 acres of land in the new township, and in 1824 this area became known as “Streetsville”
Street built a mill (which still stands today) and a home for his family. By 1850 the community had become the centre of commerce in the county and remains a bustling Mississauga area hotspot.
Modern Streetsville lies centre along Queen St. (the name of Mississauga Rd, south of Britannia Rd.), and north of Eglinton Ave W. Known as the most original and inviting “Village of the City”, Streetsville contains the largest concentration of historic buildings in all of Mississauga. Merchants and residents are actively committed to preserving the town’s history, unique character and rich architectural heritage. Here, you can take a self-guided historical walking tour, or just enjoy perusing the town’s charming shops, restaurants and coffee houses, which are set in the historic buildings.

 

KNOWING THE AREA
 

In Mississauga many parks are interwoven into the city’s residential areas, providing good walking trails and children’s playgrounds for its residents. Streetsville and its environs are no exception. You’ll love the feel of the clean, fresh air and open space that surrounds you here Mississauga also has state-of-the-art community centres in all its neighborhoods, providing residents with indoor pools, skating rinks, fitness facilities and diverse recreation programs. Erin Meadows Community Centre on Erin Erin Centre Boulevard and Meadowvale Community Centre on Glen Erin Dr. both lie within proximity of Streetsville.
Spring is a spectacular time to enjoy a stroll along the banks of the Credit River, which flows right through the town. You can access the trail right from Streetsville Memorial Park, just to the east of Queen St.
From the cute and funky strip of home décor and various other shops on Queen St., to the elegant Erin Mills Town Centre, you’ll easily find everything you need. Do some shopping in the Meadowvale Town Centre and Erin Mills Town Plaza, where you’ll find Loblaws, Sears, The Bay, Old Navy and H&M, along with many other stores, restaurants and services.
