Lorne Park was the hottest property market in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) in the first half of 2010, according to a new real estate survey. With a 30 per cent increase over last year, the average price of a detached home in the area is $880,000, according to the report by RE/MAX. The average price was $676,289 in 2009, and $830,041 in 2008. The real estate company looked at 63 real estate districts in the GTA and found prices had increased by an average of 10 per cent overall. The only other local area to make the top five was Creditview/Erindale, which is fourth, with an average sale price of $561,973 for a detached home in the first six months of this year, an improvement over 2009 ($444,221) and 2008 ($476,877). Markham placed second on the list, with a 27.7 per cent increase. The top five also included Armour Heights/Bathhurst Manor (third) and Hogg's Hollow/Bridle Path/York Mills (fifth). RE/MAX credits record-low interest rates and the rush to avoid the Harmonized Sales Tax as factors encouraging buyers to move up in the market. Source www.Mississauga.com |
